Another Teaser From the Packet Pushers

We hinted at something coming from the Packet Pushers in an earlier post. Well, here’s another hint…

Wookieepedia shares with us the following:

The prophecy of the Chosen One was an ancient Jedi legend that foretold the coming of a being who would restore balance to the Force.

The idea of balance of the Force, a central tenet of the Jedi Order, refers to the ideal state in which the Force exists in nature, i.e. as the light side. The presence of the dark side corrupts and destroys this natural balance, and the Jedi viewed it as their duty to restore it.

IT practitioners tend to go to extremes when designing systems. For example: overprovisioning bandwidth; building redundancy beyond what the budget can support; and constructing security paradigms that sacrifice usability & supportability. There should be balance. As engineers, I believe it’s our duty to find it, especially when it comes to security.

No one should want to end up as the IT equivalent of this guy.

Hmm, I was thinking they meant some guest posts from Hoff.

Not sure what the surprise is, but I think the last statement – seeking balance as it relates to security – should become the “Hippocratic Oath” of anyone that will ever log in to any system as root, administrator, enable, … or will design solutions that will require others to do so :-)

Also, for the record… Darth Vader is kind of awesome.

Hmm…What do rainbow colored unicorn puke, tin hats and Darth Vader have in common? I have no clue.
