You feel like that you have been doing the same thing for so long with the only exception is that you now have a different title and a pay raise to boot but alas the CLI is still the CLI. As soon as you get used to one manager’s personality and temperament, its off to a new one to start the whole process over again. You like calling yourself the “senior whatever” but you realize you’re as only smart and knowledgeable as your last position. Recruiters badger you on LinkedIn because your profile matched their key words and they want to know if your open to “new opportunities”. Didn’t they see that you just started your new gig about two months ago?
You realize that the CCIE or whatever alphabet mountain was never climbed but you admit that while you don’t know everything and probably never will you find comfort that you have been able to progress through your career fairly consistently and quite humbly, never being the victim of a layoff or downsizing.
There’s just one catch. There’s this inner voice say “Now what?” ” Is this it?”
