Take a Network Break! Amazon jumps into the Unified Communications (UC) business with Chime, a new service that competes against the likes of WebEx, GoToMeeting, and Skype. The IETF approves a significant change to BGP, called the BGP Large Communities attribute. And speaking of standards, Arista co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim wants to drive a technology community effort to develop 800Gbps optics.

A RightScale survey shows Azure growing faster than AWS, Citrix adds its SD-WAN technology to Azure, and Verizon gets a steep discount on its Yahoo acquisition bid.

Cisco saw its quarterly revenue dip, and Cisco has to grapple with selling to hyperscalers and building more subscription businesses. Finally, Arista closed out its fiscal year on a high note, with revenues up almost 35% over the previous year.
