There are lots of distractions at the office, and many of them reside on the machines we stare at all day. Twitter feeds, Facebook posts, YouTube videos, and an infinite sequence of cat photos are queued up and waiting to devour our attention.
We asked readers to identify the biggest distraction at the office, and “coworkers” not only came out on top, but stomped on the other choices and then buried them in a ditch.
We included email as an option, but it’s not listed in the results because it got zero responses. Zero!
Here’s the question and the response options, with the results:
Distractions abound at work, whether on the screen in front of you or from the people around you. Which one is the biggest?
A. Coworkers: 27
B. Email: 0
C. Phone calls: 1
D. Cat pictures: 1
E. Social media: 2
F. Other: 1
I’d love for other people to weigh in here. Is this result just an aberration, or are people really the biggest thing that pulls you away from work? And if that’s true, maybe we should all work at home.
