Automation has the potential to transform the way networks are operated and managed. It’s also essential to make private and hybrid clouds a reality in enterprise data centers.
However, there’s not a lot of information about how automation is being put into practice, what problems operators are trying to solve, and what their needs are around tools and training.
A community of technologists, architects, operators, vendors and bloggers has developed a survey to answer some of these questions. The survey is unsponsored, vendor-neutral, and doesn’t collect any personal information.
It has four sections and covers the following areas:
- Your environment: how your network looks, what devices you operate.
- How you operate your network today. Questions are organized per “task”: how do you configure, how do you troubleshoot, etc.
- Looking ahead: what tools and topics do you want to investigate in the future?
- Open Feedback
The survey will be open from October 31st to November 15th, and the results will be posted publicly.
In addition, folks are welcome to provide feedback about the survey and offer suggestions for future versions. People interested in network automation are also welcome to join the NetworkToCode Slack channel to join the discussion.
Thanks to Damien Garros for spearheading this effort.
