Juniper Networks has announced that it will soon begin shipping new SPC3 (Services Process Card) Advanced Security Acceleration cards for its SRX5000 line of security gateways, which includes the 5400, 5600, and 5800 appliances.
These security appliances target large enterprises, service providers, and cloud providers. Customers can mix and match security features including firewalling, IPS, site-to-site IPSec VPNs, and Unified Threat Management (UTM).
The new cards are designed to extend the value of SRX5000 gateways by allowing customers to increase throughput and performance of existing equipment without having to upgrade to the next tier of appliance.
Juniper says the new SPC3 cards can improve performance by as much as 11 times, but didn’t provide specific numbers compared to SPC2 cards. Performance and capacity will vary depending on the mix of features and capabilities in use.
Customers that have open slots can add one or more SPC3 cards to the same chassis to run alongside SPC2 cards, or simply replace the lot depending on capacity requirements.
In addition to SPC cards, the SRX5000 appliances also support Input/Output Cards (IOCs). Customers can mix and match SPC and IOC cards to meet their requirements.
Available SPC/IOC slots are as follows:
SRX5400 – 3
SRX5600 – 6
SRX5800 – 12
Juniper did not provide pricing details on the SPC3s. The new cards can be ordered now and should be available within the next 60 to 90 days.
