In this special episode of Day Two Cloud, Ned and Ethan dive into two major topics.
First, Ned has just released two AWS troubleshooting courses on Pluralsight. Ethan and Ned discuss what the courses cover, and riff on the AWS exam strategy in a world of rampant cheating through braindumps.
Second, Ethan and Ned tell stories about the time they took management jobs they shouldn’t have and share the lessons learned through the experience. Not everyone should go from an individual contributor to a manager. They also tease an upcoming show where they interview folks who made the leap to management, but it worked out well for them.

Great topic and advice here. Hopefully anyone listening to this episode thinking of making the move to a managerial role, should think very hard before taking the plunge. Lessons gleaned: don’t do it just for the money, follow your passion, it may take you further, ask many questions about the position or role you’re getting into – this will hopefully give you an idea of what your expectations and experiences will be like.
I also find that it is a good idea to keep up with new trends. Learn new things on the side, it may unknowingly open new or future job opportunities for you.
With that said, I 110% agree with what was discussed. It’s working with people vs working with machines.. both have their pros and cons.. but at least machines don’t talk back. ????
