Why don’t we use a pre-existing routing protocol?
One of the first ROLL WG activities was a study  that analyzed some of the existing IETF routing protocols such as OSPF, IS-IS, OLSRv2, AODV and RIP, and considered how they could be adapted to the following criteria: routing state, loss response, control cost, and link and node cost.
